Fifty years ago Bill Callahan and Dolly Pomerleau founded Quixote Center with a dream to be a progressive faith-based center for challenging injustice. Our founders were influenced by liberation theology and animated by a commitment to solidarity with the vulnerable and
marginalized, within the Catholic Church and in society. They dreamed the “impossible
dream” of a world more justly loving, armed with the faith that their love and persistence
could make impossible dreams come true.
Some of Quixote Center’s early initiatives became independent organizations, such as Equal
Justice USA and Equal Ways Ministry. Others live on in our current work, including Haiti
Reborn and Quest for Peace in Nicaragua. Our new work complements the older, as we offer
dignity and a new life to migrants across the Americas, protect the environment and support
small business development in Haiti and Nicaragua, and educate Americans about policy
issues that impact the vulnerable. We are not done yet.
Quixote Center’s past inspires our future. Our founders had a vision that our country and our
church could do better. We share that dream and, like them, we do not believe it is impossible.
In September, Quixote Center will host a dinner and party to celebrate 50 years of making the
impossible, possible. HERE you can find details about how you can sponsor the event and purchase tickets. The newsletter describes our current successes wrestling with the impossible, and illustrates where your support goes. We hope to see you on September 19 and we are very grateful for your support.
