Food Aid Reform

Food Aid Reform has seen some positive steps thanks to your efforts. In January, both houses of Congress passed the Omnibus Spending Bill that included $35 million in Food Aid reforms. USAID can use this money to buy locally-produced food in the regions we are helping – definitely a step in the right direction! However, this is only a small step. Please take a moment to voice your support for more substantive Food Aid changes.

With our current practices:

  • It takes 130 days for the hungry to receive U.S. shipments of U.S. grain
  • In the last 3 years, $219 million has been wasted on inefficient cargo shipping
  • We are missing the opportunity to reach 4 million more hungry people each year
